The Linyanti

The Linyanti region is surrounded by its wildlife rich neighbours, the Okavango Delta, the Chobe National Park and Namibia’s vast Caprivi Strip. Made up of 3 wildlife reserves the Linyanti is the collective term for the Linyanti, Kwando and Selinda Reserves. This area in Botswana is wild and remote and offers spectacular game viewing. There is a limited number of accommodation products from luxury to mid-range and prices are generally higher priced than other regions due to the authentic safari experience on offer. Access is via light aircraft and the Linyanti links seamlessly with all the wilderness areas in Botswana. The area is dominated by floodplains and woodland areas and during the dry season animals migrate to the region where water is more easily available. As these are private reserves many different activities are on offer, from guided walking safaris, night drives and off-road game drives. If you are looking for a truly authentic safari experience then the Linyanti should be on your list.

Wildlife & Time of Year to Travel

During the dry season between June to October the Linyanti is a magnet for large herds of elephant as well as herds of plains game which are welcomed by the array of predators on offer here. Lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena and wild dog are all prolific here and sightings are a common occurrence. Wildlife is more difficult to see in the green season and due to flooding in the wet season we only recommend a small umber of lodges.

Activities

The Linyanti, Selinda and Kwando Reserves are all private wildlife reserves which allows operators to offer a wider selection of activities. Guided walking safaris, river cruises, night game drives are all available to guests. One can chose to take a helicopter tour over the Linyanti or take a guided walk to get up close and personal with wildlife. We recommend taking full advantage of being able to do a guided walk in Africa surrounded only by nature and incredible wildlife.
