The Big 5 – Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo are some of the most well known animals of Africa, but they are just the start of what Africa has to offer.  Originally called the Big 5 by hunters as these 5 where the most dangerous opponents.  Nowadays the term Big 5 safari is used by operators, national parks and private game reserves who are fortunate enough to be able to showcase all 5 of these incredible animals in one particular area.  The big 5 is situated all over Africa’s wilderness areas and what you may not see in one area, you may see in another.  The hardest of the big 5 to come by is the Black or White Rhino, which are now heavily protected, it is such a privilege to see them in their natural environment.  If time is short and the big 5 is what you want to tick off your bucket list we recommend certain areas such as the Private Game Reserve’s that border South Africa’s Kruger National Park such as the Sabi Sabi and one may be lucky enough to see the Big 5 all in one day.  Other areas such as the Okavango Delta are home to the Big 5 but they are much bigger areas and the Big 5 can roam much further, especially the elusive Rhino.  Lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo are in large numbers in most parks.  We have a range of incredible luxury African Big 5 safaris to choose from based on our own experiences.
